The Absinthe Drinker, by Edgar Dega…
1875-76. Oil on canvas. Musée d’Orsay, Paris, France
The models for this café couple were Degas’ two friends, copper engraver Marcellin Desboutin (1823-1902) and actress Ellen Andrée.
To me this painting is of a couple so unhappy it is dis-functionally functional.. So I will interject a much known dis-functional functional couple who are seated next to them out of sight..I will not reveal who my mystery couple is yet…until my piece is written.. Watch for soon.. for this.. just wanted to share my painting and my isights..
I borrowed the likeness of this painting from http://www.abcgallery.com/D/degas/degas17.html
